Landing on the Moon
I was not around when Apollo 11's Eagle lander touched down on the moon. Yet, thanks to NASA's meticulous record keeping and treasure trove of media available from that event, you can have a pretty good idea of how everything went down, and what happened when.
But somehow, there's still a lot of myths surrounding the moon landing (and don't get me started on the conspiracy theorists). One of them is that it almost didn't happen due to a checklist error, which isn't correct. But as always, the truth is more complicated than that, and it's also a story of how good design saved the moon landing.
