#034: Bored Out of Your Mind
A lot of the devices and services revolve around keeping us busy. Notifications constantly interrupt us, there’s a plethora of of news sites to read, YouTube offers an endless stream of videos to watch, Netflix keeps playing the next episode until it believes we’ve fallen asleep, and modern communication allows us to reach anybody, anytime, around the world.
In other words, there’s no reason to be bored.
In fact, being bored is seen as undesirable. It’s the cry that every parent dreads. And if you’re bored, it’s your own fault for not keeping your mind busy. Boredom is seen as pointless, and useless.
Except boredom exists for a reason. Without boredom, we would constantly be excited about everything. And more importantly, being bored increases your creativity. It’s Why Steve Jobs Believed in Boredom.
