#013: Mistakes and other learning events
I know nobody who likes making mistakes, myself included. In fact, I'd rather avoid doing something than risk making a mistake. But there's a lot of evidence that this is the completely wrong approach, and making mistakes is what lets you or teams in general learn: What I learned from my biggest mistake as an F1 engineer (requires LinkedIn-Login).
But before you can learn from your mistakes, you have to learn how to deal with their stigma, and your negative emotions associated with it.Practicing the Stoic Art of Negative Visualization is a helpful tool to lessen the impact on yourself.
And finally, your struggles can inspire others. If you do hard things, you should write about them, if only to show others that what you're doing didn't require inborn talent, but you struggled and worked for it, and they can too.
